Week 4, Gurley Stock Keeps Rising

Since 17% of our league went golfing on Saturday I would like to share with you a little story..... So Todd and myself put a friendly wager of $5 on the line for 18 holes at Richland Country Club....There we were 15 holes down and just 3 to go and it was all squared up as we teed up on hole 16. Neither of us hit great tee shots but we still set ourselves up nicely down in the fairway, me sitting 2 and hitting 3 and Todd sitting 3 and hitting 4..... I was about 135 yards away and I put my ball up there deep on the green with a long birdie put to go. Todd was sitting out from about 100 yards and sure enough, he sank that shot for a birdie! WHAT A SHOT! It was his longest shot ever made... But I still had a birdie put of my own. Well I missed it and got my par.... So we get to hole 17 with Todd up 1..... Fast forward to the green on 17... I am sitting about 20 feet away for a par and Todd about 15 feet away for his par.... Before we hit we both have a quick chuckle about how this is a very important putt.... So I step up, look it over, get my read. And knock it in with a dramatic slow roll in the side door of the cup. Todd missed and we were now tied with just one hole left to play..... We both set ourselves up nicely for a shot at the green on 18.... I hit mine long but still had a very long putt for birdie.... Todd hit his just short of the green and was able to chip it just a foot from the flag.... So Todd had his par and there I was 50 feet from the cup with a chance to win the game. Or 2 putt and send it to a playoff. So there was a lot of pressure on this putt. And anyone who knows RCC 18 hole would know that when the pin is in the front and your up on top of the green, it is not a easy put. Well, I lined up the ball, gave it my luckiest poke and sure enough that damn ball went right in the hole from 50 feet out and I beat Todd 81 to 82.... Just wanted to share that story. Now to football stuff.

POWER RANKINGS

I came up with a different formula this week. This formula will really shake up the rankings this week. By using the position rankings, i added up every ones top QB, TE and there top 3 WR's and top 3 RB's... I did top 3 because that plays into the flex slots and i feel i can get a overall grade of your teams better..... I will also be using a 5 point ranking system to represent your position grades. Ranking system is as follow:
Excellent
Good
Moderate
Poor
Bad

#1 Eric 3-0
QB   - Excellent
RB's - Excellent
WR's- Excellent
TE    - Excellent

Good thing for most of us. Is that the Rams have a hard schedule from here on out and Gurley's production should be on the down slope. But it is hard to see that Eric is stacked across the board using this formula. Eric also loves to trade, so might want to make him some offers for some of is good ass players. I bet he will work a deal with you.
---------------------------------------

#2 Chris  2-1
QB   - Excellent
RB's - Moderate
WR's- Excellent
TE    - Excellent

I am lucky so far to have the best QB and TE in the game. So that really helps me out when using formula like this.... I am weak at RBs and would be looking to deal a WR. Maybe even Fuller who looks to be ready to make his season debut here this week or the next. But things finally seem to be looking up in the fantasy football world for the Silverback Hyenas. Last year wasnt so great for them but this could be there year to get the NUT back.
-------------------------------

#3  Andy  1-2
QB  - Poor
RB's - Excellent
WR's- Moderate
TE    - Excellent

Some might be surprised to see Andy in the 3rd slot with a record of 1-2. But let me re assure you about how good Andy's team has been. He has allowed the most points in the league while scoring basically the third most in the league. I say basically because he is only behind Derek by .3.... Andy has a very solid team, but his main weakness is his QB. But his QB is Carr and we all think he is much better then the 18th ranked QB in the league. Look for Andy to be very tough to beat in the coming weeks.
------------------------------------

#4  Scott  1-2
QB   - Bad
RB's - Excellent
WR's- Good
TE    - Bad

Scott makes his way into the top 4 this week with great RB and WR play. As you can see, his QB and TE need some work. Cam Newton just has not been getting it done this year and its a major let down for his stock holders.... Scott has some decent RBs which i feel people should start making offers for. Freeman, Lamar Miller, Gore and Gillislie are all ranked inside the top 22.... Know body else but Andy has 3 RB's in top 22 and Scott has 4! There are several teams who need RB's and if the right offers are made. We could see a trade done this week with Scotty's team.
--------------------------------------

#5  Nathan  1-2
QB   - Poor
RB's - Moderate
WR's- Good
TE    - Good

Nathan probably does not feel good sitting at 1-2 but there are 8 total teams at 1-2. So its any ones game. Nate is also super stoked to see TY finally do some good. He didnt just do some good. HE WENT OFF!!! Nate has potential for some trades that could help his team. But he has the 9th best RB and WR so that is nice. He is some what balanced across the board. His QB is 16th in league. I expect Tyrod Taylor to get added this week. His schedule is super easy from here on out and some teams whos QBs are not doing so hot might want to try Taylor out.
------------------------------------

#6  JR  2-1
QB   - Excellent
RB's - Moderate
WR's- Bad
TE    - Excellent

When owning Brees and Kelce it is no surprise to see Excellent by there positions for this formula.... His WR's are the thing JR needs improving on the most. Pryor just has not performed like we all thought he would. Baldwin might of gotten injured(Expect Richardson to step up for Seahawks) along with Sproles. Sproles is actually out for the year. JR better hope Amendola and Nelson pick up there WR play if he wants to keep winning. He sits tied with third best record in the league but only ranked 6th. We will see if he can pull out a victory this week to go to 3-1.
--------------------------------------------------------------

#7  Derek  3-0
QB   - Excellent
RB's - Moderate
WR's- Bad
TE    - Good

Hard to believe a 3-0 team with a 86% chance of making playoffs would be #2 behind Eric not 7th... That's why i like to change up the rankings formula from time to time to get a different view of every ones teams. Derek has the best RB in the game right now in Kareem Hunt. But his second and third best backs are ranked 26 and 34. That really brings his RB core down quite a bit. His RB core only ranks 9th in our league when adding up the top 3 backs on every ones teams. He has decent QB and TE. But i feel that if this team snagged up another top RB then it could be lights out for the league.
----------------------------------------

#8  Trevor  1-2
QB   - Good
RB's - Bad
WR's- Excellent
TE    - Bad

Hard to deny that Trevor has probably the best receiving core with Tyreke Hill, AJ Green and Beckam jr.... But he might want to think about trading one of them for a RB. Trevor's RB core ranks dead last in are league at the moment and his TE is also not so great. I think a RB and TE for one of Trevor's WR's could bode well for both sides. Very curious to see if anyone trys to snag up one of Trevor's great WR.
--------------------------------

#9  Brandon  1-2
QB   - Excellent
RB's - Good
WR's- Bad
TE    - Good

With 2 blues and a green, I am very surprised to see Brandon come in at #9. It must be because his WR rank 11th in are league as a whole. He is sitting on the 4th best QB and the 3rd best RB in Howard. Brandon probably is feeling much better about his team then he was at the start of last week after losing David Johnson and Allen Robinson. Brandon did a great job bouncing back to get the win this past week. Lets see if he can snowball that into another victory this week.
-----------------------------------------------

#10  Todd  1-2
QB   - Good
RB's - Bad
WR's- Poor
TE    - Excellent

We see most the colors of the rainbow here with Todds team. He has great TE in Witten and i personally love his QB in Mariota. But it is his RB's that have really dampered his fantasy season so far. McCoy is just the 12th best RB in league when he should be a top 3 RB.... Having Woodhead go down never helps either. Todd could potentially pull off a trade to get his team fired back up. But there are a lot of 1-2 teams and week 4 and 5 will really start to separate the field. So not everyone has to make sudden moves. Sitting back and seeing what happens could also be benifitial.
----------------------------------------------

#11  Matt  1-2
QB   - Good
RB's - Poor
WR's- Poor
TE    - Good

Not sure luck is the right word to describe Matt's last week but in a way he did get lucky. The eliminator challenge is very small part of are league but you win lottery tickets for next years draft. Matt had -8 on his defense and some how managed to survive the eliminator. Thanks to Brandin Cooks!..... Matt's RBs and WRs rank pretty low in are league compared to everyone else. He could turn it around if he made a few trades. He might be looking into our fantasy basketball league already.
------------------------------------

#12  Brian  1-2
QB   - Poor
RB's - Good
WR's- Bad
TE    - Bad

Brian had a rough start to the year. His TE and WR's are some of the lowest in the league. His RB's would be worse but i allowed Ajayi to have a 17 ranking instead of his 36, that first week bye shouldnt hurt Shans team. But Brian is a trader and i am sure he will make something happen just to change things up. If you all have read everyones writeup then you might put all the pieces to the puzzle together to make the most perfect trade this week.

Week 3, Brady Is BACK!!!

This is brought to you by: The Pizzaria! It's a pizza place where you make your own pie! We give you the dough, the sauce, the cheese....you pound it, slap it, you flip it up into the air.... you put your toppings on and you slide it into the oven! Minutes later, you have your very own pie! Made from your very own hands!

Andy's team sure showed up big this week. He outscored everyone and won the $25 bounty on the week. Lowest scorer was Trevor and he is now eliminated from the eliminator challenge. Only 10 teams left!

I put together some stats to show us how many fantasy points have been scored each of the first 5 weeks of the last 3 seasons. And I found this out. Here was our league's average over Week 1
WEEK 1
2014 - 162
2015 - 166
2016 - 178
2017 - 146

So you can see that we had a upward trend going from 2014-2016. But we fell well shy of the average line this year. We actually had the 2nd worst fantasy week that I have ever seen. ... So now lets see how Week 2 lines up.
WEEK 2
2014 - 143
2015 - 159
2016 - 163
2017 - 152

So once again you see that we had a upward trend going and once again this year was below average.... I am showing you guys this because I could tell that we have not been scoring as much as we have in the past. So if you think your team is under performing then just hold off and wait a bit, be patient. Averages will pan out and I suspect our league to have a better then average week coming up. So keep your heads up!

Power Rankings
#1 Eric
2-0  965
The team to beat in are league ever since it's creation has been Eric. He is a fantasy football guru. Back to back championships and still has the #1 power ranking based on the formula I use. Eric is one tough opponent to beat. His team this year is already looking spectacular. His top 6 has to be the toughest in the league. Aaron Rodgers, Gurley, Montgomery, Antonio Brown, Hopkins and Ertz. Now it is looking like Carson for Seahawks could be the starting RB now so that gives Eric another starting RB. So once again Eric is looking like the team to beat.
Gold Standard Players
Ty Montgomery  27.1
Todd Gurley  27.1
Aaron Rodgers  25.0
Rams D  23.8
Antonio Brown  21.2

#2 Derek
2-0  880
One of our new owners, Derek has hit the ground running. He was very active in trades in the off season and now has one of the most exciting players in the league in Kareem Hunt. But unfortunately for Derek, he got a few key injury's last week to his team that could end up hurting him this week vs Matt. Prescott, Jordy Nelson and Rob Kelley all got banged up a bit and will have to wait further along in the week to see if they are a go for Sunday. Derek will hope that once again Kareem Hunt can explode for another big game to get him to 3-0. But as it sits right now. Derek has a 80% chance of making the playoffs.
Gold Standard Players
Kareem Hunt  40.3
Dak Prescott  23.6

#3 JR
2-0  863
What a beautiful start to the season for JR. Not even scored 150 in a week yet and stands at 2-0. Lucky Bastard lol. JR has a good team lead by Brees, Elliott, Baldwin and Kelce. But what JR has done the absolute best at so far is streaming his Defense's. He picked Steelers in Week 1 who got 22 points and then picked up Buccaneers for Week 2 who also got him 22 points. He will be playing the Vikings D this week, so expect them to also get 22. But as it looks after just 2 weeks. JR has a 20% chance of not making the playoffs.... Mark Ingram has been a pleasant surprise I would say. Wracking up 13 points in back to back games. I really thought he would have trouble getting double digits. I have been proven wrong.
Gold Standard Players
Brees  26.5
Buccaneers  22.7
JJ Nelson  20.2

#4 Andy
1-1  855
Congrats to Detective Andy for winning the $25 bounty. Andy probably could not feel any better about his team. After winning the $25 bounty most people have to feel pretty damn good about there team. Led by Crabtree's 3 TD's. Andy was the only team to score over 200 on the week and now has most points scored on the season for a week. And let me remind you all that he scored the most points without his #1 pick Bell even  going over 20. Andy has a pretty solid team from top to bottom. I suspect he will be a hard team to beat week in and week out. Better bring your A game when your playing the NYC Cruzin with Carr team. Andy has a 50% chance of making the playoffs with a record of 1-1.
Gold Standard Players
CJ Anderson  26.1
Derek Carr  25.9
Michael Crabree  23.2
Jay Cutler  18.7

#5  Scott
1-1  833
Our 2nd place team from last year is Scott who is right in the middle of the road this year. Lead by Cam Newton who has been under performing so far by scoring 18 and 12 in his first 2 games. Luckily for Scott he played Chris in week one. Everyone beats Chris in week one. But week 2 was much tougher match vs the high powered scoring Andy Snider. Scott still would of beat 6 other teams in the league so he should be feeling pretty good about his team.
Gold Standard Players
DeVonta Freeman  21.1
Kyle Rudolph  20.1
Broncos D  19.0

#6 Chris
1-1  816
Brady is back!!! It sure is nice owning the highest player in any week. This week that guy was owned by me lol. Brady had 3 TD's in first quarter for the first time in his long career. Lets hope he does it every week....Already active on the trading scene. Chris was trying to get rid of James White last week so he did not own 4 Patriots. He offered him to Brandon for David Johnson and to Nathan for TY Hilton. Both understandably declined. And that was lucky for Chris's team since he got Alshon Jeffrey who scored 22 and helped Chris get his first victory in the first 2 weeks of the season in the last 3 years. But James White also scored 18 and looks to be a key ingredient in that patriots offense. Did Brandon and Nathan let one slip away??? Time will tell.
Gold Standard Players
Tom Brady  26.0
Leonard Fournett  23.3
Jaguars D  19.5

#7  Brian

1-1  749
With 3 gold standard players in Rivers, Ajayi and Hyde. Brian got his first win over Todd...... Brian had a pretty rough first week as he was the lowest scorer in the league. But he quickly turned it around by putting up 165 points..... Brian will try to get a winning streak going vs Brandon who has not yet one a game in this league yet. But Brian also has a few injury's to some key guys. Jimmy Graham and T.West are banged up but both hoping to still possibly play this week. Graham is looking more on the doubtful side actually. Brian doesn't hesitate much when it comes to needing to do a trade. So look for him to be active on the trading wire this week.
Gold Standard Players
Philip Rivers  25.0
Jay Ajayi  23.2
Carlos Hyde  19.4

#8  Todd
1-1  745
One of the hardest owners to beat in this league. Todd still has a 50% chance of making the playoffs with a 1-1 record.... He played the wrong TE and Def but in the end it still would not of made a difference. But it sure has to be a nice feeling owning Jason Witten who Todd knows will play week in and week out. And for Witten to hall in 10 catches on 13 targets makes him a super threat over there in Dallas. Look for Todd to either play 2 TE's or sit Eifert because Witten just earned his starting role for the weeks to come..... This week Todd faces Chris(me) and will look to go to improve to 2-1 were 64% of the teams have made the playoffs with that record.
Gold Standard Players
Jason Witten  22.3
Marcus Marriota  21.8
LeSean McCoy  20.5

#9 Matt
1-1  660
In Week 3 we have new owner vs new owner. But the edge would have to go to Derek who is 2-0. But Matt will give him a run for his money. One reason I think so is because Kareem Hunt can not keep up this great play. Or can he? Matt will certainly hope not..... Matt has some low projections this week but adding Stafford over Winston will improve that a tad.... And also adding Cohen via trade looks to be a nice move as Howard looks to have gotten injured in week 2.
 Gold Standard Players
Matt Stafford  25.2
Ravens D  24.6
Mike Evans  22.3
Tarik Cohen  20.3

#10  Brandon
0-2  594
Rough start for our 3rd new owner. He only has 2 gold standard players and they both are QB's But losing 2 key guys in week one is a very tough blow to take. A win might not come easy for Brandon in the coming weeks. But on a high note. Brandon would have beaten 7 other teams in our league this week. He just happen to be playing against the second highest scoring team this week. With David Johnson and Allen Robinson both being out, Brandon did really well. I mean who could lose there 1st overall pick in a draft and one of there top WR's and still have a chance to win. BRANDON CAN!
Gold Standard Players
Ben Roethlisburger  23.2
Russell Wilson  22.1

#11  Trevor
0-2  574
Lead by Tyreke Hill, Trevor has struggled so far early in the season. Might just not be the year for the Scott brothers. It is time for one of them to bust out of there shell this week. Could it be Trevor?!?! I think it could be. He plays JR who has won both his matches by scoring 148 and 146. If Trevor can get to 150 then it appears he has a chance. But do not and I can not stress this enough. DO NOT, forget to make some trade offers if you feel your team needs improvement. You got this Trevor! I know you can turn this team around.
Gold Standard Players
Tyreke Hill  19.2

#12 Nathan
0-2  549
Rough start for this team. Lost his stud TE Greg Olsen for up to 8 weeks. So look for Nate to use his waiver on Ben Watson of the Ravens who just had 8 catches and a great game in that throw heavy offense. .... Nate might be siting 0-2 and feeling unlucky but he just missed being eliminated in the eliminator challenge by 3.2 points so that's kind of lucky. Nate will be looking a little harder this week to sell on his Colts WR's. If you don't sell them low now then you probably wont ever get anything for them. Time to cut ties with those Colts Nate Dog!
Gold Standard Players
Melvin Gordon  22.6
Matt Ryan  20.8

Gold Standard

The gold standard is measured by players who scored 300 or more points in fantasy last season. Some even went over 400 and should be put in there own category but since there are so few we will just combine them with the Gold Standard. If a guy scored 300 on the season then he would have averaged 18.7 a game. That is a fantastic number to shoot for. But there were only 39 of these Gold Standard players last season.
QB's = 24
RB's = 9
WR's = 4
Defense = 2

QB's have a high ceiling so we expect them to be over 300. So lets focus on the other 15 Gold Standards from last season. Here they are in order.

Gold Standard
1. David Johnson  480.4
2. Ezekel Elliott  410.8
3. LeVeon Bell  389.6
4. Demarco Murray  367.1
5. LeSean McCoy  366.1
6. DeVonte Freeman  335.5
7. Antonio Brown  315.9
8. Jordy Nelson  314.7
9. Chiefs Def  312.5
10. Mike Evans  312.1
11. Melvin Gordon  310.4
12. Vikings Def  307.6
13. Beckam jr  305.8
14. Blount  304.7
15. Jordan Howard  301.5

So if you own one of these 13 guys, excluding the 2 defenses. You should feel good about your pick. But now lets go ahead and look at week 1 and see who has some guys who have already qualified for our GOLD STANDARD. There was 46 qualifiers.
QB's = 15
RB's = 11
WR's = 8
TE's = 3
DEF = 8
Kickers = 1

46 Qualified but only 31 were owned last week. So if you had more then 3 guys get over 18.7 then you are well on your way to having a better then average team.

Waivers are through and here is who owns the GOLD STANDARD players.

Silver Standard

SILVER STANDARD
 Players who average 12.5 or more

WEEK 1
Chris  7
Eric  7
JR  6
Scott  6
Todd  6
Derek 5
Andy 5
Trevor  4
Nathan  4
Brandon 4
 Matt  3

 Brian  2

The Silver Standard, that is what I like to call guys who average 12.5 a game. That number is important to me because 12.5 times 16 game season is 200 fantasy points on the year. Let me show you how many Silver Standards there are in each position last season.

QBs = 28
RBs = 23
WRs = 28
TEs = 3
Def = 15
Kicker = 0

The best kicker last year only averaged 11 points per game. And the QBs were mostly over 300 on the season. Actually 24/28 were over 300 fantasy points on the season. So lets take the QBs out of this Silver Standard list. That leaves 69 from last season. Divide that by number of teams in are league and you get a average of 5.75.... So the Silver Standard for each team would be just below 6. In Week 1 this year we had 105 but i am not going to be counting QBs in my Silver Standard. But just food for thought. 12/23 QBs that scored 12.5 or more were un owned in Week 1.

Not counting QBs there are 59 guys in week 1 who were owned who qualified for silver standard. That's a average of just below 5 per team.
